Buddhist Monk Goes Viral for Playing Slots in Las Vegas Casino

The post Buddhist Monk Goes Viral for Playing Slots in Las Vegas Casino appeared first on Vegas Slots Online News.

Buddhist monks are known for their shaved heads, orange robes, and simple, minimalist lifestyles. However, one particular monk has gone viral on social media after showing that he still likes a little flutter on casino slot machines.

The post by pro poker player Angela Jordison now has more than 85,000 views on X:

Despite his appearance, many in the comments have claimed that may not all be as it seems with this “religious” fellow. One common hustle on the Las Vegas Strip involves a group of fake Buddhist monks who sell bracelets and prayers to tourists. As many critics have pointed out, this goes against Buddhist values of humility and minimalism.

In response to Jordison’s post, many have pointed out that this is likely the case with this particular gambler. “He’s never getting a penny out of me again,” one user called Billy Walters responded. Another joked: “I still have my $40 bracelet, and my name is in his little book for prayers that will sway me away from the dark side.”

Betsson “Disappointed” by Swedish Supreme Court’s Ruling to Pay Gambling Addict SEK5m

Betsson penalized

Svenska Dagbladet has revealed the Swedish Supreme Court has ordered Stockholm-headquartered iGaming firm Betsson to pay a gambling addict SEK5m ($590,000).

aggressive marketing and bonus incentives

The court ruled Betsson’s Malta-based subsidiary BML Group exploited a known gambling compulsion in the man, referred to only as Per from Örebro, via aggressive marketing and bonus incentives.

According to the Stockholm daily, Betsson “bombarded” the 51-year-old with marketing, gifts, and bonuses.

While the court ruling represents a grueling victory for Per, who had reportedly been fighting his case for a decade, Betsson expressed disappointment on Tuesday with the Supreme Court’s decision.

Per’s VIP spree

Bettson issued a press release in which CEO Pontus Lindwall expressed his firm’s disappointment over the judgement.

Lindwall highlighted in the statement that Per’s case went back to 2009–2014, before the new Swedish Gambling Act. The CEO added that the Act, which rolled out in 2019, “meant that a clearer regulatory framework for the Swedish market was introduced.”

Despite expressing his company’s dissatisfaction, Lindwall noted that the case had “very specific circumstances and that the ruling is not expected to have any broader financial consequences” for Betsson.

The trouble with Per for Betsson essentially began three years after he opened a gambling account. In 2012, the iGaming firm upgraded Per to a VIP customer and upped its marketing to him.

According to media reports, Per experienced a net loss of just over five million kronor ($527,000) from the time he became a VIP to 2014, when he voluntarily excluded himself from the online casino.

This is the same amount the Supreme Court ordered Bettson pay back to Per, along with legal costs of SEK718,750 ($75,974).

Devil’s in the data

Per’s case was strengthened by the Supreme Court’s investigation into Betsson that revealed the iGaming firm had “access to data that showed that the player had a serious gambling problem.”

Swedish national TV channel Sveriges Television AB cited Per’s legal representative Jörgen Hettne as stating the ruling could bring “a positive change in the gambling market” while also strengthening consumer protection in Sweden.

The Las Vegas hospitality industry can start breathing a sigh of relief as President Donald Trump has revealed a plan to give temporary passes to undocumented immigrants currently working in hotels.

A large number of these people work in Nevada, a state which relies heavily on the success of casino resorts.

could stay if they meet specific conditions, such as paying all relevant taxes

Trump admitted that ICE raids since he came to power have caused major disruptions in certain industries, including agriculture and hospitality. Undocumented workers can stay if they meet specific conditions, such as paying all relevant taxes. The president remarked that he is attempting to balance keeping the economy motoring and protecting the country’s borders.

This news comes just a few weeks after extensive protests in Las Vegas led to almost 100 arrests. Law enforcement deployed tear gas and rubber bullets to deter people who were protesting the aggressive approach of ICE officials in Los Angeles.

Florida Man Faces Life in Jail After Laundering $10m in Cocaine Sales via Casinos

Cocaine distributor comes clean

A Pensacola, Florida man has confessed to federal charges of money laundering and “conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute cocaine.”

admitted to laundering $10m in narcotic sales

United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida John P. Heekin announced on Friday that Rayvaughn Andrews, 41, admitted to laundering approximately $10m in narcotic sales via casinos in Mississippi and Nevada.

Heekin took to X to share news of Andrews’ confession:

According to the feds, Andrews admitted his role in a conspiracy to distribute large amounts of cocaine in Florida’s Escambia County from 2021 through late 2024.

Not careful enough

According to court documents, Andrews attempted to keep his illicit business under the radar by using a careful modus operandi. The suspect would buy casino chips with cash from his drug sales, only going over a $10,000 transaction limit twice over his three-year operation.

Evidence of Andrews’ meticulous approach is clear from court documents. In 2023 alone, the Floridian purchased casino chips with cash at Harrah’s on 94 occasions.

In keeping under the $10k threshold, Andrews avoided the casinos’ legal requirement to report his transactions to the federal Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN).

The Bank Secrecy Act requires casinos to submit a financial report to FinCEN whenever an individual makes cash transactions over $10 in a single day.

Despite Andrews’ careful approach, the law finally caught up to him. In a statement announcing Andrews’ guilty plea, the DOJ’s Heekin warned other criminals not to think they can “profit and live lavish lifestyles off drug trafficking” in his Florida jurisdiction.

Long time coming

Those who believe they can get away with it, continued Heekin, “are sorely mistaken, and will soon find themselves in federal prison.”

Andrews faces the maximum penalty of life in prison, plus the forfeiture of a Chevrolet supercar and around $40,000 cash seized during the suspected felon’s arrest.
